President Joko Widodo Commences the Construction of Kulon Progo’s Airport (Yogyakarta’s New Airport)
JAKARTA – President Joko Widodo commenced construction of New Yogyakarta International Airport located in the Kulon Progo Regency, Yogyakarta. PT Angkasa Pura I (AP I), as the operator of the airport, set up an investment of Rp 9.3 trillion (US$699.24 million) and is targeted to be completed in March 2019.
“We expect the environmental impact assessment of Tripe Alas Nawung Krida in the 587 hectares of land that has been provided is immediately processed and construction can soon begin,” said President in a press statement.
According to the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, Widodo expect by mid-2019 the new airport could replace the old Adisucipto Airport, Yogyakarta. As the first stage, He conitnued, the capacity of this airport can accommodate approximately 14 million. Subsequently, in the second stage, the international airport in Yogyakarta would be able to accommodate 20 million passengers.
President Director of PT Angkasa Pura I (AP I) Danang S. Baskoro explained that currently Adisucipto Airport capacity of 1.2 million people per year but serve 7.2 million passengers per year. Adisucipto Airport is currently only have a terminal area of 15 thousand square meters with runways 2,250 meters with a capacity of 8 aircraft apron.
In the new project, He conitnues, there will be built on an area of 587 hectares in the first phase (2020-2031), will have a 3,250 meter long runway, apron capacity of 35 aircraft. On the development of the second phase (2031-2041) will be developed waste their terminal to 195 thousand square meters, 3,600-meter runway, apron which can be used 45 aircraft and can accommodate up to 20 million passengers annually.
Beside build, new aiport in Yogyakarta, AP I also aim to develope two other airports, namely Ahmad Yani Airport in Semarang, which is targeted to be operational in 2018 and Airports Syamsudin Noor in Banjarmasin which will be completed by 2019.
